Home of Tamil lawyer attacked
24 May 2020
The home of a Tamil lawyer, who successfully challenged a Jaffna court isolation order against members of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF), has been attacked by unknown persons on Friday night.
Roy Dilaksan had appeared on behalf of the party as they successfully reversed a ruling that said TNPF members must isolate and could not hold a memorial event for Tamil Genocide Day.
The TNPF said that “gates, motorcycle, and doors” of Dilaksan’s home were “slashed with swords by unknown men who entered the premises on Friday night”.
The part also added that a junior lawyer who also worked on the case, one of 20 who appeared on behalf of the party, was also threatened by the military this week.
The latest incident comes amidst the party reporting an increase in surveillance and intimidation by Sri Lankan security forces.
