 Tamil woman hospitalised after being hit by Sri Lankan army vehicle in Kilinochchi



A Tamil woman has been hospitalised with serious injuries after a collision with a Sri Lankan army vehicle in Kilinochchi, on Monday.

35-year-old Thadsayini Vikneswaran from Ananthapuram, was admitted to Mullaitivu District General Hospital, after her motorbike was hit from behind by a Sri Lankan army vehicle travelling in the same direction.


Mrs Vikneswaran was hit whilst she on her way to pick up her children from school. The Kilinochchi police and the Sri Lankan army are conducting investigations into the incident.

Earlier this year, two similar incidents occurred in the heavily militarised Mullaitivu district. A Sri Lankan navy truck killed a Tamil man and seriously injured another before another Sri Lankan navy truck seriously injured a rickshaw driver a few days later. Military presence has significantly increased in the North-East since the presidential election of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
