Belarus: ‘We have become hostages of the situation’, says mother of detained woman
After a week of fury from western Europe, amid accusations of “state-sponsored hijacking”, Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko looked east for support. He went to Sochi in Russia, to see his unofficial benefactor, Vladimir Putin. It’s been six days since Belarus forced an EU flight to land in Minsk.
We have been talking to the mother of Sofia Sapega, who was arrested alongside her journalist boyfriend when a Ryanair flight was diverted.
