Zambia suffering from chronic shortage of oxygen and PPE

Africa is at a pivotal point in its third wave with many countries at peak risk, the World Health Organisation warned today.

They are in desperate need of vaccines with just 1.5% of the continent’s population having received their jabs, that makes up less than 2% of nearly four billion doses given worldwide.

The millions of vaccines promised by developed countries are only just beginning to arrive and in places like Zambia they can’t come soon enough.

Doctors there have told Channel 4 News of an overwhelmed health system, with a chronic shortage of oxygen and PPE.
