National Unity Front leader Azath Salley further remanded under PTA and ICCPR

On 16 March, Salley, who is the National Unity Front (NUF) Leader, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over several controversial remarks he had made at a press conference with regard to the Easter Sunday attacks and the law of the country.
On the advice of the Attorney General, Salley had been detained for questioning under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979 (PTA), Section 291(a) of the Penal Code, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) No. 56 of 2007.
