Protests in North-East demands justice for violence against girls and women
Protests were held in Jaffna and Kilinochchi yesterday demanding an end to violence against girls and women, in the wake of a spate of violent incidents targeting young females across the island.

The protests, organised by the North-East Women’s Coalition, called on authorities to immediately investigate and punish perpetrators of violence – highlighting the case of Fatima Ayesha, a 9-year-old who was murdered in Atulugama this week.
Crimes against women continue to take place across the island, said the protestors. The point was highlighted with the discovery of another body of a young girl – a 16-year-old in Vavuniya – earlier this week.
